Reception and Year 1 - Willow Class

Our topic ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ has been fun filled and action packed! The children have had great fun learning about materials, toys and space!

We have looked at lots of lovely books about toys this term but a firm favourite was ‘The Naughty Bus’ by Jan Oke. The children wrote some fantastic alternative endings and had some super adjectives to describe the bus.

In Maths, Year 1 have learnt about place value up to 50 and how to partition numbers into tens and ones. Reception have learnt everything to do with numbers up to 9 and have been learning how to play lots of Maths games! We had great fun on our Number Day and made some fantastic number hats.

As part of our toy topic this term we have been looking at toys from the past. We enjoyed a visit from Paul for our History topic and loved playing and exploring with very old toys that he showed us from a museum. In science this term Willow Class have been exploring materials, identifying what objects are made from and the properties of materials.

In R.E this term we have been learning about Judaism which resulted in a fantastic trip to a Synagogue. The children loved seeing what they have learnt about in real life and were in awe of the Synagogue!

In DT the children designed and made their own puppets and in Art they have been learning the skills of plaiting, knotting and threading to name a few.

In P.E the children have been learning about gymnastics. They have been balancing on large and small points of their bodies, learning about how to perform a variety of different rolls across a mat and different types of jumps.

Willow class have been learning new songs to sing and learning how to play tuned percussion instruments.
